Personally, while I would never chastise someone for using their magical abilities, the context matters. If you’re hurting people, and it’s not to protect yourself or someone else, it’s not okay. And lying to his wife about this, repeatedly… it doesn’t sit right with me.
At the same time, though, he shouldn’t be treated differently or looked at as a monster just because he has magic. There are no signs of him trying to hurt innocent people, so until that changes he deserves to be treated with compassion.
That’s just my two cents.
