Moving In (A Love Story pt. 5)

“I told you we should hire movers” Angela said, vindicated.
“It’s fine… almost… got it… there!” Dylan exhaled a sigh of relief, finally managing to slam the car trunk closed. “I wasn’t expecting there to be this much stuff.”
“What can I say, I’m a material girl.”
Dylan chuckled at Angela’s comment, shaking his head. “Well, material girl, it looks like we have our work cut out for us. Let’s get going.”
Angela looked at the towering stack of boxes that filled the back of their car. “You’re right, we better get going. But first, let’s take a moment to appreciate this milestone. Moving in together, our own little place. It’s exciting.”
Dylan smiled warmly. “It really is. I can’t believe we’re finally doing this, Angela. Our own home, our own space. A fresh start together.”
The couple got into the car and drove to their new residence. As they arrived, they took each other’s hands and walked toward the entrance. The air was filled with a mix of anticipation and nervousness. Unlocking the door, they stepped inside and were greeted by a blank canvas, ready to be painted.
The couple decided to start with the living room, a space where they could unwind and create memories together. They unpacked boxes pulling out photo frames, a lamp, and a collection of books they had accumulated over the years. Each item held a story, a connection to their past.
As they worked side by side, Angela and Dylan found themselves reminiscing about the adventures they had shared. The time they camped under the stars, the city they explored together, and the cozy nights spent curled up on the couch watching their favorite movies. Their journey had been filled with laughter, love, and growth.
“We’ve been unpacking for a bit. What do you say we get some dinner?” Dylan suggested.
“Sounds good. Luigi’s?” Angela replied.
Dylan smiled. “You read my mind.”
Angela pulled out her phone. “The usual?”
“Actually, I was thinking we could try something different.”
Angela looked at Dylan inquisitively.
Dylan’s tone suddenly became serious. “I suppose if we’re moving in together there’s something you should know about me… I like pineapple on pizza.”
Angela burst out laughing. “I thought you were going to say you killed somebody! A murder I could forgive, but pineapple on pizza is an unforgivable culinary sin.”
“Hey, have you even tried it before?”
“Well… no” Angela admitted.
“Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.”
“Fine, I’ll give it a try.” Angela dialed the number into her phone. “Hi, I’d like to place an order for delivery… One Hawaiian pizza” Angela said through gritted teeth. As a force of habit she almost gave her old address but quickly corrected herself.
15 minutes later the pizza arrived. Dylan opened the box taking a whiff. “Perfect as always, Luigi’s.” He took a bite, glancing over at Angela. “Well?”
She hesitantly took a bite, slowly chewing it. “Huh, not bad.”
“Not bad?”
“Okay, it’s actually pretty good.”
Dylan smiled, vindicated. “See, I told you it’s good.”
“I guess you were right after all.”
The couple finished the pie and returned to unpacking. Revitalized by their meal, they made excellent progress. Finally, as the last box found its place, the couple stood in the middle of their new home, their hands intertwined. The once empty apartment had transformed into a reflection of their love, a place where they could build a life together.
Angela looked around, smiling. “It’s perfect, Dylan. I can’t imagine a more beautiful place to call our own.”
Dylan pulled her into a tight embrace, holding her close. “This is just the beginning, Angela. Our journey together is unfolding right here, within these walls.”
As they stood there, Angela realized that it wasn’t the material possessions that truly mattered. It was the memories they would create, the laughter they would share, and the love that would fill every corner of their new home. They still had much to learn about each other, but she knew they were ready for this new chapter of their lives, ready to make their house a home.
