The Culinary Adventures of Aurelia Walker

There are so many fancy and expensive places around the city that I will never have the opportunity to visit, but frankly I’m not really interested. Taking the time to look around, you can find so many small little homey places to eat. Not to mention the godsend that is the bodega. I would have starved in the first week if it were not for that beautiful corner store. Most weeks I try to stock up on cup noodles and bread, mostly for toast. I also really like the three dollar mango-pineapple-ginger juice they have. If I need a pick me up or get enough extra to spend though I go for a chopped cheese. Those things are good, but you will be on the floor the rest of the day. The biggest thing there is that they don’t reheat very well in the microwave so leftovers are not an option. For chopped cheese and cheesesteaks you can reheat them; for best results though you’ll want to foil wrap them and toss them in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees fahrenheit. Unfortunately my building does not have an oven. Microwaving the sandwich is never pleasant because you always find a random cold pocket and the bread gets all soggy. I’ve tried scooping the meat out and heating before putting it back in the bread, but that doesn’t keep the bread from later getting too soft if you microwave it separately. You could forgo microwaving the bread, but then you have hot filling and cold bread, which just isn’t fun for anyone. I should probably also mention that I just don’t have any microwave safe plates or anything to put them on anymore, so I wouldn’t want to cause any trouble by making a mess there. Where did they go? Great question; maybe ask the cheesesteak fairy, because out of all the supernatural I’ve dealt with, the most perplexing is my otherworldly love for these greasy awful sandwiches.
